Why make a video?
When you share your story, you help other people who have had abortions by erasing the shame and stigma around abortion.
We understand that it can be challenging to share your story through an online video.
Do you have someone in your life that you can talk about your abortion with? Perhaps you want this person to be in the video with you. We want you to be as comfortable with this process as possible. Consider asking a loved one to support you through this experience.
Who can participate with Texans for Access?
Anyone who identifies as a Texan and has had an abortion or wants to share why they support access to abortion and support a person’s decision to have an abortion.
Not a Texan but have a story to share? Share your story with the 1 in 3 campaign, a national abortion story-sharing project.
How do I submit my story to Texans for Access?
Visit the Share Your Story page to submit your story or statement of support. You can either upload your video story yourself, or fill out the form to request a professional camera crew to shoot and edit your video.
Is an iPhone camera good enough quality for the project?
iPhone and webcam videos are perfectly acceptable for this project.
Who will see this?
By sharing your story with Texans for Access, it is possible for anyone to view your story since it will be on the Internet.
When will it be online?
We will do our best to post your story as quickly as possible after you submit it.
If I mention someone else’s abortion am I violating their privacy?
We would love for you to share your stories of supporting someone who had an abortion, but please only mention someone else’s abortion if they have given you permission.
How can I talk about my partner’s abortion without exposing them?
Partners are too often left out of the conversation around reproductive rights; we believe that their voices are a strong part of our dialogue. We invite you to share your personal story that demonstrates why you supported someone’s decision to have an abortion, but ask that you be sensitive to the wishes of your partner who had the abortion.
Can I share my story or message of support anonymously?
We understand that it can be intimidating to share your abortion story online. However, one of the goals of Texans for Access is to change the stigma around abortion through the power of testimonial videos. For this reason, we ask that you appear as yourself in your video. We would like you to give as many details as you feel comfortable giving.
How do I make a YouTube video?
Please refer to YouTube for further instructions.
How long should my video be?
We want you to share as much of your story as possible, but we suggest limiting your story to five minutes. The ideal video is anywhere between 30 seconds and five minutes long.
If you’re submitting a written story, your story can be as long as you want it to be.
I have unresolved issues related to my abortion experience. Who can I talk to?
